Adoption in Hertfordshire
Watch our video and find out all about adoption in Hertfordshire.
All children who need adoption will have had a difficult start in life. Perhaps their birth parents haven't been able to look after them because of drug/alcohol problems, or mental health difficulties. The children will often have experienced neglect, fear, rejection, physical and emotional pain and feelings of sadness and loss. They have experienced lots of moves in their young lives and are likely to have emotional difficulties as a result. Whether a child is a few days old, toddler or older when placed in foster care, all will have experienced the trauma of leaving their family of origin.
These experiences will affect the child at some stage.
We endeavour to place children within a family of similar ethnicity and culture oradopters who can promote this for a child. We know how important it is for children to identify with their own race and culture.
We also need adopters who are able to consider young babies who may have special needs throughout their lives. Some of these children may well 'catch up' and meet their developmental milestones, others will not. We need parents who will be able to love a child where there is a degree of uncertainty.
Some of the children we place have difficulties in understanding, learning and communication. Other children have more specific disabilities such as Downs Syndrome or are disabled as a result of injuries. We are always pleased to hear from adopters who may be able to commit to a child with a disability.
Adoption gives children a positive experience of family life and a chance to grow up with a sense of belonging to a family. Adoption helps a child reach their potential and to do well in life.
Adoption is a life long legal commitment that helps a child feel secure in their family and to know that there is always someone there for them. As an adoption agency we will always be there to offer support to you and the children.
