Hertfordshire County Council is seeking your views on the enlargement and relocation of Westfield Community Primary School in Hoddesdon.
The new planned housing development at High Leigh to the west of Hoddesdon has a provision for a new one form entry primary school within the new development. As this proposed development is less than half a mile from Westfield Community Primary School, additional land sufficient to accommodate a two form entry school has been secured to provide the opportunity to consider the enlargement and relocation of the school. This would mean that we avoid providing two smaller primary schools within close proximity to each other; we also have a preference for primary schools of at least two forms of entry because we find that they can offer a larger curriculum and are financially and educationally more viable in the longer term.
Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Education, said:
“We are committed to providing every child in the county with a school place. The provision of new homes at the High Leigh Development, Hoddesdon means that more school places are going to be needed to meet the additional demand in the area”.
“Hertfordshire County Council has recently been exploring proposals with the governing body of Westfield Community Primary School, and this consultation is an opportunity for parents, carers, local residents and children to provide their views as part of this process”.
A public exhibition of design proposals will be held at the school on Tuesday 23 January between 2.30pm and 8pm which the public can attend. This will provide an opportunity to speak to school place planning team representatives and ask any questions about the expansion and relocation proposal. The exhibition also gives an opportunity to speak to the design project team, including highways and planning consultants who will be available to answer questions and gather feedback about the new school design as part of the town planning process. If you are unable to attend, the exhibition material will be available to view and comment on between 24 and 31 January 2018 at: www.vincent-gorbing.co.uk/consultation and at: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/consultations
You have until 27 February 2018 to let us know your views. The easiest way you can do this is by completing the online form on our website www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/consultations. Should you wish to request a hard copy of the response form or need help understanding this information you can email firstname.lastname@example.org or alternatively please call us on 0300 123 4043.
Any feedback received will be reviewed and made available to elected members who will make the final decision at Cabinet on 9 July 2018.
