Residents’ concerns about Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) using the A507 between Baldock and Buntingford are being investigated by Hertfordshire County Council.
Following a petition from the ‘A Safer A507’ Campaign Team, the county council is investigating the best way to manage HGV traffic in the area by imposing and enforcing weight limits.
Ralph Sangster, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Local residents have raised concerns about the suitability of the A507 for HGVs, and having read their petition we share some of those concerns.
“However, we’re also aware that HGVs do need to move around the county and we’re wary of just shifting a problem from one place to another. That’s why we’re carrying out a detailed investigation into how we can best impose weight limits, as well as how we can actually enforce them, to find the best option.”
The county council’s preferred option will be published for public consultation in the autumn.
