Discover Hertfordshire people, places and popular topics at the touch of a button with the new and improved Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies (HALS) Heritage Shop and catalogue.
The online shop relaunched in January, and makes it is easier to find and purchase local history books, maps, DVDs, CDs and Archive Services. We have also improved and expanded our archive catalogue search and its features, to make it simpler to find the information you are looking for.
Some highlights include St Albans Borough records, the Commission for New Towns, documents relating to famous figures in Hertfordshire history such Sir Ebenezer Howard as well as workhouse and hospital records. There is a wealth of historic material to explore, and the catalogue continues to grow as new material is added.
The website also offers a service to help you trace your family history through our collection of online archives, original documents which can be viewed when you visit us and workshops with experienced archive staff.
The records held by Hertfordshire Archives and Local studies, based in Hertford, can be viewed free of charge during our opening hours; you can also order a search or a digital copy of the records. Visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/HALS to explore the new Heritage Shop and search the catalogue today.
