With the heavy rainfall overnight and this morning, please give yourself extra time for journeys today and avoid driving through flood water. Our crews work all year round to clear gullies so as much water as possible can drain off the road, however when a large volume of water falls in a short time there will be localised flash floods. This happens when a downpour overwhelms drains and you should see the water drain away quickly once the rain has stopped.
Watch our video to see how we clean Hertfordshire’s 168,000 roadside gullies. If you see flood water that doesn’t drain away please report it to us at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/highwayfaults so we can deal with any problems and check drainage systems to make sure they’re working properly.
