Repair work has now started on the void in High Street Green.
Over the last week the small entrance to the void has been opened up and, using a long reach excavator, lots of the loose material at the bottom has been cleared.
Work took place over three days to fill the main void with concrete, up to a level just below the Thames Water sewer so that Thames can take over the site and carry out repairs.
Once Thames Water have completed, the county council’s contractor Ringway will continue to fill the hole with concrete to just below road level.
Other utilities companies will then inspect their service to make sure they are safe before the road surface is reinstated and road reopened.
At this stage, it is estimated that the road will reopen at the end of November.
