Teresa Heritage, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Hertfordshire County Council, said:
“We understand that this is an unsettling and emotional time for the parents and carers of those who are looked after at Nascot Lawn and the welfare of the children affected is of paramount importance to us. Discussion at Full Council on 18th July resulted in confirmation that funding for Nascot Lawn will be extended until 31st January 2018 and it was also agreed that Hertfordshire County Council, Herts Valley CCG (HVCCG) and East & North Herts CCG would share the cost of this extension. This extension allows time for the joint social and medical assessments, where required, to be completed and for children to be transitioned to alternative arrangements. The scrutiny meeting that took place today further supports the need to look at why HVCCG made the decision to withdraw funds without proper consultation with the families, the carers and other interested parties, including Hertfordshire County Council. We welcome the scrutiny of the decisions taken by us and we continue to keep the welfare of the children at the forefront of our planning. We await formal notification of the conclusions and recommendations from the scrutiny committee and will review those. We absolutely see it as a priority to continue updating the families and carers with the latest developments.”
