The bond between siblings is often the longest relationship a person can have in their lives which is why it is so incredibly special and something worthy of being celebrated. Siblings often support each other throughout their lives and are there for one another as they get older. April 10 marks the National Sibling Day as a way of honouring that special bond between siblings.
Unfortunately life often throws people different kinds of hardships and you often see that siblings tend to rely on one another more so if they are affected somehow. Siblings who enter foster care for example may have experienced difficult times and instability in their lives and so we are campaigning to keep siblings together so that they can have an easier time starting this new chapter in their lives. We are looking for foster carers who can care for sibling groups so that they can provide a safe home and help them find the right path in life.
For many siblings they face uncertain times when going into foster care and feeling part of a family and just enjoying the simplest of things can be their greatest wish. By fostering brothers and sisters together, it helps to make them feel secure in a difficult time in their lives and helps them to maintain their important family bonds.
“Our foster carers made us feel part of their family. They gave us our own room, our own bed & we all sat down for dinner together”.
So, in celebration of National Sibling Day, we are helping to spread awareness of the fact that you could change a brother’s and sister’s life forever this year by simply keeping them together. If you have more than one spare bedroom and could keep siblings together, we would love to hear from you.
With Hertfordshire County Council, you'll be given full training, round the clock support and a generous allowance for your dedicated work.
How can you help?
Whether you are single or a couple, you have so much to offer.
