You can’t escape the royal fever which has been sweeping across the country in the last few weeks. And what with royal street parties, royal babies names growing in popularity and a number of Hertfordshire couples sharing their big day with the royal couple, it would be fair to say that Hertfordshire hasn’t escaped the excitement either.
With a month to go to the royal wedding of Prince Harry and his fiancée, Meghan Markle, on May 19th, the party spirit is in full force with the county council receiving a number of applications for community street parties in areas right across the county.
Hertfordshire’s registration services have also seen an increase in babies being registered with royal names and have taken bookings for 28 Hertfordshire couples choosing to hold their weddings on the same day as the royal couple.
A total of 56 applications for road closures have been made to Hertfordshire County Council for traditional community street parties in areas right across the county on Saturday the 19th. Areas hosting events include Harpenden, Watford, Cheshunt, Bishops Stortford, St Albans and Potters Bar.
Hertfordshire was crowned as the street party capital during both the royal wedding in 2011 and the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012, hosting more street parties than any other county in the country.
Royal names are also proving popular in the county with Harry coming within the top three most popular names and George and Charlotte coming within the top ten most chosen names. Hertfordshire’s registration services have also seen the name Megan growing in popularity this year.
