The improvement works on the A602 at Hertford Road junction in Stevenage, the Anchor Lane roundabout, Westmill Road and the A10 roundabout are progressing well and are now due to be completed by 30 April.
The works were originally due to finish at the end of March, but have been delayed by adverse ground conditions and engineering challenges at Hertford Road. We know this adds to the on-going delay for users of the A602 and our contractor has tried to minimise disruption by adding additional workers and doing more work at night.
While our works are underway we have taken the opportunity to carry out some necessary maintenance works to trees and road drainage on Westmill Road and co-ordinated with the local water company for them to carry out improvements to their water main near the Anchor Lane roundabout. This approach will reduce the need for future roadworks and disruption.
We understand the frustration that motorists feel when delayed by road works and it’s obviously disappointing that the project has encountered some set-backs that will delay completion. However the end result will be much needed improvements to this very busy road. This scheme along with further planned improvements at the A119 roundabout and along Ware Road, are part of the council’s commitment to improved highway infrastructure in the county.
