Every week, a team of 300 dedicated volunteers are helping Hertfordshire residents get active by leading around 60 free walks for the council.
Volunteers like Anne Ballard, who is featured in our video, help people to get healthier and happier by leading health walks all year round, come rain or shine.
Anne told us: “It’s nice to see how people benefit from walking and you can really see them progressing – they can walk further and feel better about themselves.
“What’s also really lovely is the social side. There is one lady in the group whose only contact is within the group. She can come along, have a cup of tea, go for a walk and interact and that’s lovely for her.”
Hertfordshire Health Walks, which are co-ordinated by Hertfordshire’s Countryside Management Service (CMS) are enjoyed by around 3,400 people every year. They are for all ages and abilities and range from 30 to 90 minutes.
Hertfordshire also has an amazing 3200 kilometres of Rights of Way network and 50 Green Flag awarded green spaces so there’s lots to explore. The Walks & More outdoor activities organised by the CMS help people enjoy their local environment.
