A120 Improvement works beginning soon
Published: 21 Nov 2018
Significant improvement works to the A120 corridor between the A10 and Bishop’s Stortford are being rolled out by Hertfordshire County Council later this month.
The Standon Improvements phase is due to start on 26 November 2018 and is expected to be completed during May 2019, just prior to the start of the Little Hadham bypass project.
The three-year Standon project includes enhancing several junctions on the A120, in the village of Little Hadham itself and at Cambridge Road, near to the A10. The overall aim is to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and reduce the impact created by the A120.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Phil Bibby, said: “The A120 is a vital link in Hertfordshire, connecting the A10 to Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted Airport. The changes about to start in Standon, and the upcoming Little Hadham Bypass, represent significant improvements in this area, bringing benefits to local residents and motorists alike.
“We are working hard to minimise delays and disruption caused by these major roadworks, but it is inevitable that motorists will suffer from disruption to their journeys.”
The second phase of the works at the A120 starts in March 2019 and involves the diversion of water, BT and gas utilities prior to starting the Little Hadham bypass, taking around a month to complete.
The planned bypass around Little Hadham will enhance the environment in the village of Little Hadham and improve journey times along the A120. The works also incorporate a flood alleviation scheme, developed in partnership with the Environment Agency, which will reduce the severity of flooding incidents on the River Ash affecting Little Hadham and Much Hadham.
To reduce disruption caused to residents and users of the A120, there will be traffic management measures introduced in the area, including occasional road closures, diversions and night working.
In addition to these plans, there are further projects planned in the area, including housing development works near Puckeridge and changes at the M11 junction 8. All of these works are being delivered in several phases.
