Armed Forces Covenant Board Schools Christmas Arts Competition 2018

Published: 28 Nov 2018

Following the success of last year’s Christmas arts competition the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant board has decided to run the competition again this year.

Key Stage 2 pupils from across Hertfordshire are invited to create artwork around the theme of the WW1 centenary, which will be sent to serving UK military personnel who are separated from their families over Christmas.

This year’s competition will be judged by Northwood HQ which is the UK’s principal military headquarters, who will also distribute the art to armed forces personnel working away from home at Christmas.

The Northwood military headquarters is where decisions about combined operations involving the Navy, RAF and the Army across the world are made. They have expressed how much service personal who are separated from their families over Christmas would appreciate receiving pictures from Hertfordshire children.

Chairman of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board, Cllr Terry Douris, said: “This competition gives children from across Hertfordshire the chance to show their appreciation to the UK armed forces.

“It’s important to remember those who will be working away from their families during the festive period while many of us spend time with loved ones.

“Artwork from local children offers a great morale booster for the serving personnel who are separated from their families this Christmas.

“We would encourage children, parents and schools to get involved and the winning entries will be treated to activities at the Northwood Military Base and lunch in the Officers’ Mess. There will also be a prize for the school of the winning entry.”

The theme for this year’s competition is the commemoration of the WW1 centenary.
