Bus station revamp is just the ticket.

Published: 04 Oct 2017

Work to give Welwyn Garden City bus station a major face lift is scheduled to start on Monday (9 October) and last for 22 weeks.

A new custom designed bus enclosure will house all six bus stops and include new seating, lighting and up-to-the-minute information screens. An improved bus layout will ensure easier safer access for both pedestrians and bus drivers. Surrounding the bespoke station will be new block paving and kerbing, new street lighting as well as street furniture and landscaping.

Ralph Sangster, Cabinet Member for Highways said: “Once complete passengers will notice a real difference, not just to the look and feel of the station but also operationally.”

During the work the existing bus station will need to be closed and temporary bus stops will be provided opposite John Lewis and on Bridge Road opposite Waitrose.

All changes to bus services will be advertised in advance at the existing station and at the temporary stops.

Part of the scheme will involve works on Osborn Way which will involve some daytime and night time road closures. All road closures will be advertised in advance.
