Councillor backs life-saving measure in Bishop's Stortford
Published: 23 Feb 2017
County Councillor John Barfoot (Bishop’s Stortford East) has allocated £167 from his locality budget to Community Initiative to help people who may be suffering from cardiac arrest.
This allocation will be used towards the installation of a donated defibrillator in a disused phone box at Snowley Parade, Bishop’s Stortford.
A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.
Community Initiative runs or supports a wide variety of inclusive community based projects in and around Bishop’s Stortford.
Cllr Barfoot said: “I am delighted to be able to contribute to the installation of a defibrillator in this busy part of Bishop’s Stortford. My hope is that it may prove instrumental in saving lives in the future.”
The locality budget scheme has funded thousands of community projects since it was launched in 2009, supporting local good causes and making a real difference to people across Hertfordshire.
County councillors work closely with local communities to identify local issues. For this year, each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council has £5,000 to spend on worthwhile projects in their area and they welcome applications from across the local community.
