Good news for residents in north Watford

Published: 26 Sep 2018

From Monday 1 October new bus services will be serving people living in Garston, Meriden and Kingswood, giving them easy access into and out of Watford town centre. The county council chose to step in after the 324 service run by Arriva was withdrawn as it was no longer commercially viable.

This new service will begin operating on 1 October the day after the 324 runs for the last time.  The new W1 and W2 will run during the week, with the W1 operating at peak times to cover journeys to and from work or school. The new W3 and W4 will serve the areas every half hour on a Saturday.

The services will be reviewed after six months with the aim being to secure a longer term more sustainable solution which includes seeking financial support from other parties.

Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We know that our residents value public transport, so I am really pleased that we have been able to fund this new service and maintain this important link into the centre of Watford. I hope it will attract more and more passengers, including drivers, who make the decision to leave their cars at home.

“I am pleased to hear Watford Borough Council are committed to assisting with funding this service and I hope we can also secure contributions from elsewhere to try and ensure the news services continue.”
