Have your say on transport in Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas

Published: 13 Aug 2018

Residents can have their say on transport in the county by taking part in Hertfordshire County Council’s South West Herts Growth and Transport consultation.

The consultation focuses on transport in Hemel Hempstead, Watford and surrounding areas, including links to nearby towns like Bushey, Rickmansworth, St Albans, Harpenden and neighbouring Luton.

The population in Hertfordshire is increasing which will also have an impact on transport. By 2031 there will be 175,000 more people living here and using the transport system. Traffic in the county will increase by 20 per cent over the next 15 years if nothing is done.

Cllr Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Growth and Infrastructure, said: “The South West Herts Growth and Transport plan is the first of a series of plans that will cover different areas. This is a busy part of the county so we need to look at ways to tackle congestion especially at peak times.

“The plan looks at how we can improve connections between different places, better alternatives to car journeys, and make key locations more accessible.

“Our vision for the future of transport in the county sees walking, cycling and public transport playing a much greater role in getting people around the county. We recently produced our Local Transport Plan (LTP4) and the South West Herts plan incorporates policies from LTP4.

“We are encouraging residents to take part and although the consultation is for those in the South West everyone is welcome to take part in the online questionnaire. It closes on 17 September so don’t miss out on your chance to have your say and let us know if you think we’ve got it right or not.”

The online consultation closes on 17 September.
