Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service launches new game show

Published: 03 Oct 2018

Hertfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service launched Hazard House, a fire safety game show, today.

The mini-episode challenges two fire cadets to search a home for eight common fire hazards in the quickest time.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called out to 546 fires in people’s homes this year alone.

While most house fires start in the kitchen, fire hazards can be found all over the home – from kitchen, to living room, to bedroom.

Whether it’s faulty white goods, unattended cooking, or a mobile phone left under a pillow, Hazard House highlights these hazards and advises families on how to protect themselves.

Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Terry Hone, said: “This Home Safety Week, it’s your turn to check your house for common fire hazards.

“Registering your appliances, blowing out candles before bed, and practising an escape route are all ways you can keep you and your family safe.

“Most importantly, it is vital that you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and test it regularly. Don’t let your house be a Hazard House.”
