Important - don't miss out on 30 hours free childcare

Published: 15 Nov 2017

Hertfordshire County Council is reminding parents that if you are likely to be eligible for 30 hours free childcare you must apply to the government for your eligibility code by 31 December 2017 to start from 1 January 2018.

If you apply for an eligibility code after 31 December 2017 your entitlement for 30 hours free childcare will not start until 1 April 2018.

If you are one of the thousands of families already receiving the 30 hours free childcare entitlement you must also reconfirm your eligibility by 31 December 2017 so you can continue to receive this entitlement from January 2018 onwards. If you do not reconfirm your eligibility your entitlement is likely to stop on 1 January 2018.

Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Helping families get off to the best start in life really matters to us at Hertfordshire County Council, so we want to ensure everyone who is eligible gets to apply on time. I really do want to stress how important it is to apply before the deadline date especially with everything that goes on over the festive period.

“Our early years providers in Hertfordshire are fantastic and we know that early education has a number of benefits for children and provides a great foundation for learning. It can also have a positive effect on academic achievement later in a child’s school life.”

30 hours free childcare is for working families in England with 3 and 4 year old children and is available at day nurseries, nursery classes, pre-schools and childminders.
