Interactive theatre experience coming to St Albans Library helps children to love books
Published: 12 Dec 2017
Booster Cushion Theatre Company is bringing its production of Little Red Riding Hood and Friends to St Albans Library this festive season, with a one off performance on Sunday 17 December at 1.30pm.
Little Red Riding Hood’s friend arrives to tell us the story but has a problem, there are no pages in the book! As he struggles to tell the story and keeps getting it wrong, Cinderella comes up with an idea to help find the Wolf and end the story.
This entertaining show is an engaging introduction to theatre, with children in the audience encouraged to participate, becoming Cinderella’s backing band, auditioning to be wolves, helping Red Riding Hood’s dad cut down trees and dancing a conga.
The production is hosted by Hertfordshire County Council, and leaves tradition far behind in this fast, funny show that uses plenty of slapstick humour and audience interaction.
Booster Cushion Theatre for Children was formed in 1989, specifically to work with children and to encourage them to take greater interest in books.
Since then Booster Cushion Theatre has performed to over 300,000 people in schools and theatres all over the UK.
Cabinet Member for Education, Libraries and Localism, Terry Douris, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this theatre performance at St Albans Library, one of many great events we have planned this festive season. Pop into your local library or check out our website for details.”
Tickets for the hour-long performance are £2 and can be booked through the following link https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/boostercushiontheatre.
St Albans Library will also be hosting Father Christmas at several upcoming events this December. On Monday 18 December from 2.15pm, Father Christmas will be at the Toddler Tales event. On Tuesday 19 December, Father Christmas will visit two Baby Rhyme Time sessions from 10.30am and 11.30am. No booking is required, but get there early for a good spot.
