Locality Budget Scheme opens early for COVID-19 related applications in Hertfordshire

Published: 26 Mar 2020

Hertfordshire County Council has opened this year’s Locality Budget Scheme two months earlier to support communities responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Rather than following the usual process of starting the scheme in June, the county council is making funds available from immediate effect for any coronavirus-related applications.

County councillors will be provided with the usual £10,000 each to allocate in their electoral division, but the county council will be reviewing whether additional funding would be beneficial as the situation develops in the coming weeks and months.

Applications will be handled in the usual way, as follows:

  • Applicants will need to contact their county councillor in the first instance and receive their member’s agreement to review their application
  • The applicant must have an organisational bank account (or be applying through an organisation that has its own bank account).
  • The applicant then completes the application form found on the county council website, which should take no more than a few minutes.
  • The application will then be sent to the relevant county councillor for his or her approval

Applications will be processed as quickly as possible and applicants should receive funds within a week, normally less. Several local support groups who have already applied have already received their grants.

The definition of “coronavirus (COVID-19)-related” we will employ will be very broad; it does not have to be a COVID-19 support group, it could be any local organisation offering any support to anyone affected by the virus.

The county council’s Locality Budget Scheme has funded thousands of worthwhile projects since it was launched in 2009, making a positive difference to many Hertfordshire communities.
