Resurfacing the A404 in Rickmansworth

Published: 06 Aug 2018

The A404 London Road/Batchworth Lane in Rickmansworth will be getting a new road surface and improved drainage as part of a summer of highways improvement works.

The section of road between the roundabout with the A4145 (Moor Lane) and the county boundary has deep undulations and persistent drainage problems, making it increasingly difficult for road users. Engineers will stabilise the ground, resurface the carriageway, renew road markings and studs, clean and repair drainage gullies and renew ironworks.

The works will start on 6 August and are planned to finish by 28 August. We will be closing the A404 overnight (between 8pm and 5am) for most of this period to carry out the works, although some work will be done with only one lane closed and temporary traffic lights in place. Fully signed diversions will be in place. Details of road closures and diversion routes can be found on our website at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/roadworks

Phil Bibby, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We’re carrying out these works during the school holidays when traffic is lighter to minimise disruption. I hope people will bear with us while we carry out these important works. While they will cause some delays for traffic, the end result will be smoother road surfaces, fewer potholes and less flooding.”
