Resurfacing Viaduct Road in Ware

Published: 09 Aug 2018

Viaduct Road in Ware (the A1170) will be getting a new road surface as part of a summer of highways improvement works.

The section of road between Amwell End and London Road is suffering from subsidence, making it increasingly difficult for road users. The contractors will stabilise the ground, make repairs to the road foundations and lay a new road surface, as well as cleaning out drainage gullies and renewing road markings.

The works will start on 13 August and are planned to finish by 25 August. The road will be closed during the day between 13 and 17 August, and overnight between 20 and 25 August. Fully signed diversions will be in place. Details of road closures and diversion routes can be found on our website at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/roadworks

Phil Bibby, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We’re carrying out these works during the school holidays when traffic is lighter to minimise disruption. I hope people will bear with us while we carry out these important works. While they will cause some delays for traffic, the end result will be smoother road surfaces and fewer potholes.

“We know that the state of the county’s roads really matters to our residents, and we share the view that well maintained roads and footpaths are important to everyone using them. While we can’t do everything, the resurfacing work we’re carrying out this summer, along with the regular repairs we do, will make a real difference to roads across the county.”
