Roadworks on Hatfield Road, St Albans

Published: 24 Aug 2018

Major roadworks will be taking place on the A1057 (Hatfield Road) in St Albans at the entrance to Oaklands College between 27 August and 1 October.

The works are being carried out by Taylor Wimpey to improve access to the college site as a condition of a new homes development on Hatfield Road.

The works will take place between the junctions with Colney Heath Lane and Wynchlands Crescent and will involve:

• A reshaped entrance to Oakland College with new tactile paving and drainage gullies
• A new traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing across Hatfield Road
• A new refuge island to provide a crossing point east of Colney Heath Lane
• Relocation of the existing bus stop
• New road markings and traffic signs

Work will take place between 8am and 7pm Monday to Saturday, and between 9am and 3pm on Sundays. Temporary traffic lights will be in place while works are being carried out. These will be manually operated during peak times to minimise delays.

Phil Bibby, Cabinet Member for Highways said: “It’s important that developers make improvements to our transport network when they’re building new homes, as otherwise pressure on the road network will only increase. While these roadworks will inevitably cause some disruption, in the long term they’ll help keep traffic flowing on this busy road.”
