SaverCard offers even better value bus travel

Published: 09 Mar 2018

The SaverCard, which offers discounted bus travel to students between 11 and 18 years old, will offer even better value for money after Hertfordshire County Council agreed to freeze the cost for another year.

The county council has made money available to reverse a planned price rise of £5 which had been due to take effect in September 2018. A SaverCard will still only cost £15 if applied for online and £20 offline, the same cost it has been since 2015.

Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The number of students applying for the Savercard has been increasing year on year which is very encouraging. Cheaper bus travel is obviously an attractive option and it’s a key part of our strategy to promote public transport in the county as well as giving young people more independence.

“That’s why we felt it was important to find the money in our budget to keep the cost as low as possible, so as many young people as possible can benefit.”

12,716 Savercards were issued last year allowing students to travel on buses across Hertfordshire for 50% of the normal adult fare on single and return journeys.
