Swap your old slippers for FREE at Hoddesdon Library
Published: 01 Oct 2018
Trade in your old worn out slippers for FREE at a Slipper Swap Social Event being held at Hoddesdon Library on Tuesday 13 November and find out how to avoid falls and stay warm and well this winter.
Old worn out slippers are often responsible for trips and falls, which can lead to hospitalisation and loss of independence which is why we’re offering older and vulnerable residents the chance to swap their old slippers for a free brand new pair of anti-slip ones.
Visitors are invited to come along to one of the events for a cuppa and a chat about social groups in their community, and to learn how to stay safe with helpful tips and advice from Age UK and other event partners. Visitors will also have a chance to have a go at some games and jigsaw puzzles, and browse memory boxes from our reminiscence collection.
Libraries are for more than borrowing books these days and library staff will be on hand to promote services available to older people, such as information, activities, the Home Library Service and the Carer’s Library Card.
Cabinet Member for Education, Libraries and Localism, Terry Douris, said: “Over the years we have successfully swapped over 900 pairs of slippers at our social events throughout Hertfordshire, and provided valuable information about the services and support that are available for older people.
“By preventing falls we can help the vulnerable members of our community stay healthy and independent, as well as reduce the pressure on health and social care services in Hertfordshire.”
There’s no need to book, just go along to the event between 10.00am and 12.00 noon. There will also be a Slipper Swap event at Welwyn Garden City Library on Tuesday 4 December.
Other slipper swap events will be taking place across Hertfordshire on the following dates:
- Rickmansworth Library on Tuesday 9 October
- Letchworth Library on Wednesday 10 October
- Borehamwood Library on Wednesday 17 October
- Radlett Library on Friday 30 November
