Welcome week celebrations at new Hertfordshire Family Centre Service

Published: 21 Jan 2019

Lots of Family Centres across the county will be opening their doors as part of a ‘Welcome Week’ introducing families to their all-new service.

An official launch and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place with Councillors, partners, staff and families at Highfield Community Centre, a community venue in Hemel Hempstead in which some of the new Family Centre sessions are delivered, to mark the start of ‘Welcome Week’ with further events being held at many other centres across the county until Friday.

Teresa Heritage, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Families, said; “We look forward to welcoming children, young people and families across Hertfordshire to join us and register for their new service, which is now fully operational and running programmes across lots of local venues. Family Centres are open to all, and as well as providing lots of vital support are a great place to make friends with other parents and carers locally”.

The new service commissioned by Hertfordshire County Council brings together Children’s Centres, Health Visiting and the School Nursing Service for the first time. Hertfordshire families can now access wider skills, expertise and health and wellbeing services under one roof, delivering an improved and more flexible range of support for parents, carers and children from pre-birth through to age 19.

Cllr Tim Hutchings, who recently became Executive Member for Public Health and Prevention, said; “The new service will run events and activities all over Hertfordshire, not just at specific centres, giving it a more community feel for families. The `Welcome Week’ sessions are a good opportunity for people to find out more about the service, have a chat to their local team and find out what’s happening in their area.”

Not every Family Centre will be holding and event this week, however you can visit www.hertsfamilycentres.org or call 0300 123 7572 to find your nearest centre and register to use the new service.
