School exclusion review panels

We're currently recruiting members for our exclusion review panels. Panels consider requests from parents or carers to review the decision to permanently exclude their child from a school or academy.

How much time do I need to give?

There have been between 3-5 reviews a year over the last 3 years. Each review lasts all day. We have a pool of volunteers to call so you wouldn't be called on frequently.

What skills or experience do I need?

Exclusion review panels consist of 1 member from each of the following 3 categories:

  • A lay member to chair the panel who has not worked in any school in a paid capacity, disregarding any experience as a school governor or volunteer.
  • A governor member who has served as a governor for at least 12 consecutive months in the last 5 years, provided they have not been teachers or headteachers during this time.
  • A headteacher member or individuals who have been a headteacher within the last 5 years.

We're looking to recruit individuals who meet 1 of the above criteria.

What support will I be given?

We'll give mandatory training in Stevenage on 16 January 2017.  Successful applicants must be available to attend training on this day.

Where will I be located?

Countywide. We hold reviews in a place that's reasonably accessible for parents, so the venue will normally be in the locality of the school that is the subject of the review.

Will I receive expenses?

Yes, we'll reimburse your travel expenses.
