What will I be doing?

  • Under the supervision and guidance from the teacher, support learners in the classroom with specific learning tasks
  • Support the teacher in the preparation of resources, including photocopying.
  • Support the teacher with follow up of learners.
  • Support with open events if appropriate

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • Good communication skills
  • Appropriate level of English and / or maths.
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Empathetic to the needs of learners in the class
  • Respect for views, values and cultures different from their own
  • Ability to make a regular commitment
  • The willingness to learn new skills

This role does require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You'll also need to be over 18 to volunteer with us.

When will I be needed?

  • Days and times vary depending on course delivery
  • Usually 2 – 4 hours per week – but you can request to act as volunteer in several courses if you wish.

Where will I be located?

  • Step2Skills courses take place all over the county

What support will I be given?

  • Expenses for travel will be covered
  • Supervision/line management – you will be supported by the classroom teacher and Step2Skills Volunteer Coordinator
  • Training and personal development opportunities available
