Learn how to travel on your own
'Independent travel training' gives pupils the confidence and skills to travel to and from school or college.
If you think that this would be useful, talk to the SENCO or college. Further education colleges in Hertfordshire offer travel training.
Get a disabled person's railcard
A disabled person’s railcard gets the card holder, and the person travelling with them, 1/3 off the price of their train ticket.
You can get one if you:
- Receive Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
- Receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) at either: the higher or lower rate for the mobility component, or the higher or middle rate for the care component
- Have a visual impairment
- Have a hearing impairment
Get a disabled person’s bus pass
If you have an EHCP, or meet other criteria, then you may qualify for a disabled person's bus pass.
If you can't travel alone, remember to apply for a 'companion’s pass' so that a carer can travel with you for free.
