We've arranged activities for children and young people across the county. These are available through the Short Break Local Offer

The Brokerage team or KIDS HUBs can provide further information to support you.

Phoenix Group for Deaf Children and Young People

The Phoenix Group supports deaf children, young people and their families, through fun and informative activities, which aim to promote independence and develop friendships. As a user-led charity, the Short Breaks activities will vary, depending on what the children and young people would like to do. Previous activities have included:

Ice Skating, Swimming, Relaxation, Farm visit, Horse Riding, Crazy Golf, Danger Den, Dragon Boating CookingClimbing/High Ropes, Bowling, Sports, Overnight Residential Activities, Trampolining, Arts and Crafts, Football …and many more

Age:  8-18 years

Venues: The Phoenix Centre, Stevenage (acoustically treated) 2-6 The Hyde, Stevenage, SG2 9SE and other activity centres across Hertfordshire

Session Duration: 3-5 hours               

When:  School holidays and occasional Saturdays

Action for Children @ Herts Young Mariners

This service is for young people with disabilities aged 12 -18 years based at Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt.  The service offers an exciting choice of adventurous activities including archery,canoeing, climbing, caving and paddle boarding. Young People who attend will be supported to try activities they may not have tried before and they will need to be able  to follow simple instructions for their own and others’ safety. They will be part of a larger group of up to approx. 12 young people, so this will be an opportunity to make friends.

SNAP Buy Cook and Eat Group

An evening session promoting independence for young adults (13-19 years) through planning a menu, buying ingredients, cooking and eating. The club will run for 3 hours which includes a trip to the supermarket to choose ingredients. Friendship with other users will be encouraged and supported.

Jubilee House Care Trust Individual Sessions

Individual sessions can now be facilitated depending on area and staff availability, this would be led by the young person and what their interest is or preferred experiences and goals

SNAP Buddying Services

The Buddying service is to support a child/young person in accessing an activity or club that they may otherwise have difficultly accessing alone. The Buddy will meet the young person at their activity or simply take the young person into town, walking from home. The session will normally run for 1-3 hours but may be longer on occasion to meet the needs of the activity chosen. This can be accessed weeknights or weekends.

SNAP Saturday Adventure

Children and Young People aged 8-19 years, with a wide range of disabilities. They will enjoy Stimulating activities allowing young adults (8-19 years) to explore risk taking activities in a safe and fun learning environment. Example activities are den building, cooking, nature trails, arts and crafts and a range of other pursuits chosen by clients. Wherever possible engagement with the mainstream community will be encouraged and supported where required.

Schemes will normally run for 5 hours but may be longer on occasion to meet the needs of the activity chosen by the participants e.g. a trip out of county. Activities will be held monthly on a Saturday.

SNAP Saturday Clubs

Saturday Clubs for Children/Young People aged 5 – 19 who have learning disabilities of varying severity, physical or sensory disabilities and/or challenging behaviour.

Children / People will be split age appropriately and will enjoy a wide choice of risk assessed activities, trips, on site visits from third parties such as drummers, magicians, dog handlers, police and fire services, sports coaches, artists, and musicians etc. to stimulate them and add to their enjoyment. Other activities such as Cooking and Arts and Crafts are provided on a weekly basis.  Friendship with other users will be encouraged and supported and chill out time encouraged. Wherever possible engagement with the mainstream community will be encouraged and supported where required. The clubs will normally run for 5 hours but may be longer on occasion to meet the needs of the activity chosen.

SNAP Holiday Playscheme

A range of Holiday Clubs for children/young people aged 5 – 19 who have learning disabilities of varying severity, physical or sensory disabilities and/or challenging behaviour. The play schemes run during February half term, Easter, May half term, Summer, October half term and Christmas

Holiday Clubs are split into 2 ages groups: ‘Unders’ 5-10 years and ‘Overs’ 11-19 years.
