Smokefree homes and cars

Why go smokefree?

It's illegal to smoke with an under 18 in the vehicle. You could get a £50 fine.

  • Over 80% of cigarette smoke is invisible and odourless.
  • 95% of estimated deaths from second-hand smoke are due to smoking at home.
  • Smoking at home is a major fire risk.
  • Children are more vulnerable to second-hand smoke because their lungs, airways and immune system are less developed.
  • When pregnant women or their families smoke, it increases the risk of miscarriage, still birth and death in early months.

Smoking in your home and car also harms your family pets.
