Highway drainage investigation works have been completed in Grove Road, Hitchin in advance of the major reconstruction scheme planned for the summer holidays.
The ancillary works were undertaken to confirm the existing drainage pipes were assessable and in good condition, as we believe this was a contributing factor to the premature failure of the road surface. As a consequent we found two buried manholes that were raised for future access, the carrier pipe was cleaned/inspected and minor repairs completed to ensure it’s working efficiently.
The works were successful completed over 2 weekends at a difficult location with the windows of working opportunity Saturday/Sunday only, under a full road closure.
These drainage works are likely to reduce the program for the main scheme by several weeks but we would like to thank the understanding of the local residents and business while the works were taking place. Information bulletin regarding the main scheme will be issued closer to the start date.
