The Youth of Yesterday
Can you remember stretching up on tippy toes, eyes just peaking over the table to see what is happening in the adult world? Did you play marbles on the drains or can you remember the rhymes you skipped to? Have a peak in our Childhood Days memory box. The Reminiscence Collection has a number of items to remind you of your younger years, which you can share with your family and friends to spark memories and conversation about the past. All items in the collection can be reserved for pick up from your local Hertfordshire library; browse the whole collection online here.
When does it start?
Oh, the anticipation of waiting for the test card to disappear and ‘Top Cat’, or ‘Tom and Jerry’ to start. What was your favourite childhood show? Have a browse through our DVD collection.
Smell Boxes! We’ve increased the number of smell boxes in our collection and added a couple of new scents. Could a whiff of pear drops take you back to the sweet shops lined with colourful jars where a mere quarter could be bought for a few pence? Follow this link to reserve one of our smell boxes 'smells!'
We are also pleased to announce our Reminiscence catalogue is now available to view and download from the libraries webpage.
What’s going on?
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, ‘Space Chase’ is helping Hertfordshire children commemorate 50 years since the first moon landing! Not to be left out of the celebrations our ‘1969 A Year To Remember’ DVD and replica ‘Moonday’ newspaper will remind you what else was happening during this significant time. 1969 was certainly a year to remember.
