“I think Chatterbooks is phenomenal!” – Current members of our Chatterbooks reading groups for children aged 8-12 have obviously enjoyed their year of membership! Most of their comments are along the lines of fantastic, amazing and great!
Online applications open on 1 August – so visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/chatterbooks to join the Chatterbooks groups starting in October.
Chatterbookers meet monthly in their local library to chat about the books they are reading and enjoy book-related activities. Favourite sessions include The Chatterbooks Bake off, Slugs and Snails, George’s Marvellous Medicine and Mystery in the Library.
Membership of a Chatterbooks group costs £10 for a year, or £5 for families on low income and includes a special Chatterbooks backpack and goodies.
Comments from parents this year about what worked well:
The 'Team' Spirit - good to see the progress week by week in building up the confidence of individuals to speak up within the group
Everything has been great. The staff make the experience playful and interesting for the children to enjoy, and take part in.
I think Chatterbooks is a great way of introducing new and different types of books to children. I also like the way that the activities were linked to subject.
In my opinion, nothing needed changing. My daughter made a new best friend. I like that the Leaders are caring, diligent and imparting new knowledge. Today my daughter said, "I will miss coming to Chatterbooks".
