Chatterbooks reading groups in libraries throughout the county nominated their favourite books to make up the Chosen by Chatterbooks
collections that are now available to borrow.
You will find many popular titles such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Harry Potter and many popular authors such as David Walliams and Jacqueline Wilson. You will also find some classic books such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Enchanted Wood. There are also a few lesser known gems like Cream Buns and Crime and They didn’t teach this in Worm School. Altogether the Chatterbookers have put together a fantastically readable collection. Many of these books are also available as e-books to download.
Children between the ages of 8 and 12 attend the monthly Chatterbooks meetings in 30 of our larger libraries to chat about the books they read, make new friends and enjoy book related activities –as well as helping us to buy new books for our libraries. The Chatterbooks groups that start in October this year will begin recruiting for members in August – so keep an eye on the website www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/libraries for more details.
The Chatterbookers also took part in a competition to design a new logo for the Chosen by Chatterbooks collection. The winning design was by Elisa from Oakmere Library. It shows a group of very happy children announcing excitedly that This book was Chosen by Chatterbooks!
When the books arrived, Chatterbookers were in charge of putting on the stickers and mounting the displays. As you can see from the photos, the children are very proud of their collections. Visit your library to find out more.
