As part of our Inspiring Libraries strategy, we are continuing to work with local communities to turn some of the smallest libraries in Hertfordshire into Community Libraries.
This involves setting up community steering groups who work in partnership with the Library Service to manage and deliver the local library service. Hertfordshire County Council is still responsible for the maintenance of the buildings, supply of stock and IT, as well as a long term commitment to support and train volunteers. However, volunteers form the bulk of the frontline staffing providing a welcoming public service and helping customers to get the most out of their local library.
We are currently working successfully with volunteer groups in Chorleywood, Redbourn, Kings Langley, Goffs Oak, Wheathampstead and Knebworth Libraries and training is also currently in progress at London Colney and Sawbridgeworth Libraries.
The next libraries where we will be training volunteers will be Bovingdon and Welwyn. This is an exciting new opportunity for the library service in these two communities and for local residents to become actively involved in the running of the library and the development of its future services. If you would like to assist with either of these projects, either on the frontline or as a steering group member, or if you would like any further information about what is involved, please contact us at email@example.com
Sawbridgeworth Community Library Volunteers:
Due to popular demand at Sawbridgeworth, we are also now offering some additional induction session dates here. We ask that you attend two sessions in all, a session 1 and a session 2.
Here are the next available dates:
Tuesdays 1 May or 29 May
Tuesdays 8 May or 5 June
All sessions will be held at Sawbridgeworth Library from 3pm to 5pm.
For those of you working during the week who would like to receive training, or to volunteer, on a Saturday, we are also offering a condensed version of this training from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm on Saturday 28 April at the library.
Please let us know if you would like to attend any of these sessions by emailing Neil or Imelda at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are also looking for more steering group members to work in partnership with us at Sawbridgeworth – so please do get in touch if you would like to help.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
