We had the pleasure of welcoming The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Salih Gaygusuz to Bentsley Spinney on Monday 23rd May. Where he was shown improvements to the woodland carried out through the project for the benefit of both people and wildlife.
He unveiled a new, beautifully-illustrated interpretation panel which highlights the woodland’s main features. Among the other project improvements are the planting of native trees and shrubs, the installation of bird and bat boxes and the thinning of Sycamore trees. There is also better access and new entrance signs.
The celebration event was well attended by local residents, CMS volunteers who had been involved in the project delivery, Parish, District and County Councillors and other project stakeholders.
The project was made possible by a grant of £15,637 from Tarmac through the Landfill Communities Fund with contributions from Sandridge Parish Council and Hertfordshire County Councillor Geoff Churchard’s Member Locality Budget.
The project was delivered by Countryside Management Service (CMS) working in partnership with St Albans City and District Council who own the site.
