The Local Transport Body decides which major transport schemes to invest in and which are the highest priority, with funding from the Department for Transport. They review and approve individual cases for investment and make sure the projects are carried out effectively.
Local Major Schemes are large-scale transport projects, generally unaffordable to local areas. These include:
- Local Authority large projects
- Highways Agency projects
- Network Rail projects.
