We are pleased to launch an online survey and announce a series of in-person listening events across the county for people to share their experiences and ideas about SEND in Hertfordshire.

Your input will play a crucial role in shaping the future of SEND in 2 ways - our SEND Summit and SEND strategy.

Watch Councillor Mark Watkin announce the Summit and the listening activities here (55 seconds):

How do I share my views?

1. Complete the survey

The survey will be open for the next 6 weeks (19 June -31 July).

2. Speak to your Councillor at a listening event

If you would prefer to have your say in person, Councillors are holding listening events. No need to book, just drop in and have a chat at one of these events.

Events are still in planning currently, but we expect to announce an event in each of these areas:

  • South Oxhey
  • Broxbourne
  • Welwyn Garden City/ Hatfield
  • Letchworth

(Some of the events have a small entry fee - if you would like to come but only to speak to us, not attend the event, please email us and we can arrange a chat instead: sendstrategy@hertfordshire.gov.uk.)

SEND Summit and SEND Strategy 2026 - 31

All of this feedback is being used to inform a very important event:

The SEND Summit

Monday 15 September, 10am - 4pm
Fielder Centre, Hatfield

The event will be attended by Councillors, representatives from health education and social care, and parent carers. Parent carers will make up about one third of the attendees.

The Summit will use all of the listening, and improvement work that has come before, to decide on the key areas and approach to SEND, which will be laid out in the new SEND Strategy 2026 - 31.

How can I be involved in the Summit?

Unfortunately, there is not enough space to invite all parent carers along, but parent carers from many parent organisations will be representing the voices of parents.

We encourage you to fill out the online form above or attend a listening event to share your views.

On the day of the summit, we aim to make a livestream, webinar or other kind of broadcast available so you can follow the conversation. We will be able to share details closer to the time.
