To get equipment from HES, your child or young person must either:

  • live in Hertfordshire, or
  • be registered with a Hertfordshire GP.

You can make a referral to the NHS Children's Occupational Therapy Service.

They will do an assessment and request what you need from Hertfordshire Equipment Service (HES).

The NHS Children's Occupational Therapy Service can advise on adaptations to your home or child’s school too.

Information:

For wheelchair enquiries, contact Hertfordshire Wheelchair Services.

What can we offer?

We'll fund equipment for children and young people with an assessed need up to the age of 18.

You can get 2 sets of equipment if needed: one for home and one for school. This can be useful if you don't have a way to transport a set of equipment to different places where you need it.

If you need more, the service will review your request. Your occupational therapist will help you with this.

All equipment is loaned, and has to be returned when you don't need it anymore.

Equipment for ages 18 - 25

If you're transitioning from the Children's Community Equipment offer to Adult Care Services provision at the age of 18, you'll be supported through the process by the 0-25 SEND team and the Occupational Therapy service.

Take a look at the adults equipment offer, to help you stay independent at home.
