Freedom of Information
Hertfordshire County Council has always been committed to openness, and actively seeks to make available information about how it works, its decisions and the services it provides. The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) provides a right of access to information held by public authorities.
Hertfordshire County Council has all the necessary procedures in place to ensure that we can identify and respond to requests for information in accordance with the Act. Where requests are made for information relating to the environment they will be dealt with under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), which offer similar, or greater rights of access to FOIA.
If you want to ask to see information we hold which is about you, you can make a Subject Access Request (this is a right under the Data Protection Act 1998).
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires every public authority to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme, which has been approved by the Information Commissioner, and to publish information in accordance with the scheme. Information which we routinely publish can be found in our Publication Scheme, listed under seven broad classes.
Our website acts as a comprehensive guide to information we make available. You can browse the information on Hertfordshire, or use our A to Z view an alphabetical listing of topics.
We aim to make as much information as possible available online. The classes of information listed on this page provide links to information which is available through this website. If any of the information listed is not available online, the scheme will explain how it can be accessed.
Hertfordshire County Council does not charge for information which is accessed on our website. However, we may pass on costs for reproducing information or providing it in alternative formats, and we do charge for some specialist information services. Details of these costs are listed in the Fees and charges section.
If you would like the scheme, or any of the information it lists, in paper form or in another format (including Braille, tape, or in a language other than English) please contact our Customer Service Centre.
