The families behind the website - the SEND online feedback group

Influence SEND services, quickly and from the comfort of your own home

Published Tuesday 13 October 2020

One of our goals for the Local offer website is:

"We want families to feel ownership of the information, and to feel they've made their mark on the website".

When it comes to achieving this, the ace up our sleeves is the SEND online feedback group - a group of parents and young people who have signed up to receive regular tasks and activities from us to their inbox.

By completing short, online activities (usually taking 5 - 10 mins to complete), the group helps us make informed decisions on the Local Offer website. This includes decisions on design, the information itself and how things are organised.

Why do they do it?

It's no secret that finding the right information and support has been challenging for families. Our parents and young people help because they want to make a difference to families who need support and information in the future.

We do what we can to make getting involved easy - with activities that fit around your life, from the comfort of your own home.

What have they accomplished so far?

Here's a few recent examples of how the SEND online feedback group have made big changes:

Provided advice about their own experiences with SENCOs to inform a brand new SENCO webpage we'll be publishing soon.

Helped to organise the information in our growing Preparing for Adulthood area - learn about their involvement in our previous PFA blog.

Named the categories and picked the topics we included in our resources area - more detail in our resources blog.

Give it a test run

Want to try a task now? Have a go at this latest task we sent out. This is a type of study we use to work out if we have information organised in the best way. Once you click through, there's more instructions to guide you.

If yoParent at their desku sign up, this is the type of activity you can expect, along with other types of tasks, surveys and even opportunities to get involved further.

230+ members and growing - join us

We want to get more and more points of view from families across Hertfordshire. If you're a parent or young person aged 16 - 25 with SEND, we encourage you to join our growing ranks!

  • Our tasks are never a test of your abilities - it's always to see how successful the website is
  • You don't need to complete every task that we send - you can just pick the ones you want to
  • When you sign up, we ask for a few details about you - this is so that we can send you the most relevant activities to you.
