Guest blog: Mission EmployAble - training for young adults with learning disabilities

Published November 2024

A café serving delicious food and with stunning views is the stylish HQ for a unique training programme for young adults with learning disabilities living in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and beyond.

Each year, the charity, Mission EmployAble, which was founded 4 years ago, offers supported internships from its training centre within the very popular Café On The Common inside Chorleywood Cricket Club’s pavilion.

In September this year, 14 young adults with learning disabilities started their 10-month training, spending 20 hours a week becoming ‘work ready’, by gaining the skills and confidence to find paid employment when they graduate next summer.

Mission EmployAble internships are available to adults with an EHCP aged 18 – 25 who live in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hillingdon and beyond.

Hertfordshire County Council provide free transport to the Café On The Common for most interns living in Hertfordshire, and for those who travel independently, the café is within walking distance of Chorleywood station and on a bus route.
