Guest blog: Inclusive United - making sport truly inclusive

Published May 2025

Inclusive United are a Hertfordshire based Community Interest Company whose aim is to create fun opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities or additional needs.  In this guest blog, they tell us how they are levelling up opportunities for these young people with their programmes of fun and inclusive activities...

At Inclusive United CIC, we believe sport is for everyone. We set up our Community Interest Company to address a gap we saw in inclusive, daytime sport for young adults aged 16–25 with learning disabilities and neurodivergent needs. As we grow, we’re also expanding into schools and offering summer sessions for younger age groups, as well as continuing our work with young adults.

Connection and a sense of belonging

Our inclusive sport sessions—ranging from inclusive football and futsal to yoga-inspired wellbeing—offer more than physical activity. They’re about connection, confidence, and creating a sense of belonging. We’ve seen young adults who were once isolated now making friends, getting active, and even stepping into leadership roles. One of our co-founders, Thomas, who has Down’s Syndrome, is now training as a coach and gaining work experience in sport.

Sport and employability programme

We also run a Sport England-backed Inclusive Sport and Employability Programme, helping individuals build confidence and leadership skills that can lead to volunteering or paid roles. For us, it’s about showing what’s possible when people are supported to thrive.
