My name is Louis Williams, and I was a supported intern at the Hertfordshire County Council, and I am here to share my experience and how I got on.

I got this internship course at North Hertfordshire college with an EHC plan. With their knowledge of my skills they found out that HCC could be a good fit for me.

When having my experience here I was working with the SEND Local Offer team and within the role, it was my job to:

  • Post events.
  • Post social media online.
  • Research on other websites.
  • Write out blogs.
  • Create images on my Ipad.
  • Gave feedback about the SEND Local Offer website.

I have also gained new skills such as:

  • Making things engaging.
  • Making things easy to look at.
  • Time management for a deadline.
  • Communication skills in a professional setting.

One of my favourite parts when working with the council is creating my designs for the website or event posts. Another thing I really like is sharing my experiences of events that have occurred in Hertfordshire by sharing them on the Local Offer blog. Here is an example: My Experience with Autism Hertfordshire

I had support from job coaches from the college and even help from managers from the team I was working in, they gave me my tasks for the day and what I needed to do to achieve them.

Having this work experience has helped me gain experience what it is like in the world of work and get the idea of what it is like to work in an office.
