Home fire safety self-check

If you're a Hertfordshire resident, try this self-check tool. It'll give you a personalised fire safety action plan and check whether you need a home visit.

  • It takes 15 mins.
  • Tell us about your home and lifestyle.
  • You'll get a fire safety action plan at the end.
  • It may suggest we visit your property to install safety measures. If so, we will contact you.

If you have issues accessing this form, or need the information in a different format, email hhss@hertfordshire.gov.uk or call us.

Home fire safety visits

We offer free home fire safety visits for residents who may be at greater risk of fire. This includes older people, people living alone or anyone with mobility, health or support needs.

On a visit, our team will assess the home for fire safety, including your gas and electrical appliances, access and escape routes and smoke alarms. They can also offer advice about a variety of topics about keeping safe and well, and make referrals where needed.

If you think you need a home fire safety visit, complete a home fire safety self-check first.

From time to time, we also call residents more at risk, working closely with Adult Care Services.

If you are ever worried a phone call from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service could be a scam, call us on 0300 123 4046 to check the identity of the person calling.

Professionals – refer someone for a home fire safety visit

If you're a professional working with a vulnerable Hertfordshire resident, use this form to make a referral.

We're currently working to make this form accessible and mobile-friendly. If you have problems accessing this form, email hhss@hertfordshire.gov.uk.
