Digital support in libraries

Computers, tablets and Wi-Fi

Do you need a computer, tablet or Wi-Fi access? Libraries offer free access to devices for library members and free Wi-Fi for all. You can also print and scan.

 

Computer costs

Library members – 2 hours free, then 4p a minute.

Non library members – £2.50 for 30 minutes.

 

Printing costs (A4 only)

25p – single page, black and white.

65p – single page, colour.

 

 

 

1 to 1 support for beginners: taster sessions

New to computers or tablets? Try our taster sessions to get started.

They're informal 1 to 1 sessions, usually at your local library.

They last 1 hour. You’ll get an introduction on how to use a computer or tablet and a free course booklet to help you practise.

There are 4 different taster sessions:

 

Getting started with computers

  • Understanding what a computer is and how it works.
  • Using a keyboard and mouse or touchpad.
  • Activities such as letter writing and using the internet.
  • Using a computer safely.

Getting started with a tablet

  • Understanding how to use a tablet
  • Using a touch screen
  • Using the internet
  • Learning about apps.

Moving on with a tablet

  • Using a tablet and accessing features
  • Taking and sending photographs
  • Understanding how to use email
  • Using the internet and safe shopping

An introduction to using the internet

  • Using web addresses to find information
  • How to use a search engine
  • Staying safe online.

 

How much does it cost?

£10 per person.

£6.50 for library members who have a disability or are on a low income and receiving benefits.

Email us at libraries.information@hertfordshire.gov.uk or ask in your local library, if someone you know would be interested in a taster session.

 

 

Digital volunteers

Our team of volunteers offer free support for a range of digital enquiries, whether you're using a library computer or your own laptop, tablet or smartphone. 

No need to book. Just drop in when digital champions are available.

We can help with:

  • printing
  • scanning
  • emails including attachments
  • using the Internet and navigating websites
  • internet safety
  • Microsoft Office
  • using online library services including ebooks, magazines and library app.

Internet safety

Are you cybercrime and fraud aware? Speak to a crime prevention expert to stay safe and secure online.

We are hosting a countywide tour of free day-long drop-in events in partnership with Hertfordshire Police featuring talks from Trading Standards, as well as opportunities to ask questions.
