Resources Area Goes Live

Published Friday 17 April 2020

Our resources area goes live!

We are rather excited to announce that our resources area has now been set live as a permanent feature, for all to use and enjoy! Our resources area was one of our scheduled projects for 2020, and thanks to a (not so) gentle nudge from COVID-19 has been released a little earlier than expected.

This area of the Local Offer is a place that families can rely on for up-to-date, practical support and guidance, regarding any stage of their child's development. We will work hard to make sure that our resources area will continue to grow and evolve with our families' needs.

Go and explore...

Our resources area is full to the brim with usable documents, websites, apps and printable materials for families and professionals to explore, you can find things like:

  • Activity sheets provided by the Specific Learning Difficulties team to help children progress in key areas including writing, memory, numbers and spelling.
  • Practical help for children who are struggling with their mental health.
  • Lots of fun ideas for your children to do independently or as a family at home to encourage them to explore and use their imagination.

Finding digital solutions to life's offline challenges

After speaking to both families and professionals about what they wanted to see on the Local Offer, it became clear that the website was lacking a kind of ‘digital library’ that could house all kinds of practical support. It became our mission to build this webpage, keeping in mind the fact that every young person with SEND across Hertfordshire has a unique set of needs that must be celebrated and provided for.

Responding to feedback

In order to cater for everybody’s needs and do so in a clear and organised way, we worked closely with parents like you to find out what families needed from this webpage. You told us amongst other things that you wanted to see:

  • Sleep, behaviour, eating, coping strategies.
  • Visual Learning Resources.
  • Visuals to help my child understand how they feel.
  • Activities ideas for evenings/ holidays.

The build

After pinning down exactly what should be featured on the webpage, our next job was to begin to understand how best to display this information. We went back to our families and asked just that! You told us that you needed the page to work around your busy lifestyles, be easy to navigate and include information that is quick to read. The result, a super handy filter tool that should help anybody using the page find exactly what they need.

Help us, help you by letting us know what you would like to see.
