Care homes
Choosing a care home
It's important to find a care home that's right for you or for the person who's going to live there.
Not all care homes are the same. Some offer accommodation and help with personal care, such as washing and dressing, covering different care needs including for people living with dementia. Other care homes offer nursing care as well. The NHS also has some good advice on choosing a care home.
The Hertfordshire Directory is a great place to start your search for a care home. You can find homes by location, type of care, and facilities appropriate to your needs.
CareFind connects you with a list of care homes by location, type of care, and facilities appropriate to your needs.
Care Choices lists nursing homes and home care in Hertfordshire with information on paying for care, support for carers, and checklists to use when looking at care homes and homecare companies. You can request a booklet to be sent to you at home.
Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspects all care homes regularly to check the standard of care and quality of life you or your loved one will receive at a particular home.
Paying for a care home
Everyone has to pay something towards their care home but how much you pay will depend on your financial situation, what care home you choose and the level of services you need.
We can have a chat with you about your needs and your day-to-day life. We can then agree whether a care home is right for you and how much you may need to pay.
We call this an assessment.
